We would like to wish our family of supporters and Freedom Limerz much more love, prosperity and blessings for the year 2023! As most of us our still recovering from a loaded 2022 and a wicked transition into the new year. We at Awókey Entertainment were of course keeping busy behind the scenes and are proud to kick-off the New Year with a big announcement!  

After our successful participation with Rotterdam Carnival in 2019 we was unfortunately struck with that which we choose to no longer to speak about. Last year as a fresh carnival group we was also forced to sit one out. However after plenty of positive feedback and questions as to when we will be returning to the streets of Rotterdam for carnival, we are pleased to announce our participation for Rotterdam Carnival 2023! As many of us are still suffering from the financial crisis caused by the health situation around the world, there is also still a large group of people that clearly understand how important it is to partake in stress relieving activities. One of these activities being the annual celebration of carnival in Rotterdam and all across the world. This group of carnival loving people (who are not easily intimated) unfortunately had yet another big pill the swallow as we’ve recently received word from the Rotterdam Summer Carnival Foundation that this year’s traditional Rotterdam carnival celebration will not take place as it has been pushed back to 2022 due to too many complications and uncertainties. Even though we belong to the group of "the not easily intimated" people, we understand their decision as we all have to face reality.

The organization of Rotterdam Unlimited and Summer Carnival has decided to cancel the 2020 edition. The organization had previously announced that the five-day event in connection with the many roadworks, this year would be modestly realized, with the focus on the 35th edition of the Summer Carnival Street Parade. It now appears that this crowd puller cannot go ahead, so the entire event will be canceled this year.

This year’s theme for Rotterdam Carnival events is “The Revelation of Angels and Jab Jab”. The theme is based on the Chinese Philosophy of Yin and Yang and is inspired by a combination of the modern day Caribbean carnival aspects as well as the more traditional Jab Molassie culture better known in Grenada as Jab Jab.

First off we would like to wish everybody an abundance of blessings in love, health and prosperity for the year 2020! Last year we revealed the revelation between Angels & Jab Jab. We’ve learned that no matter how different we might think we are amongst each other, we all bleed the same color as we are all one, one human race. Zomercarnaval 2019 made it clear that we must start to behave in such matter and start uniting as one to build a better future for ourselves and our generations to come.

After our successful debut liming on the road with Awókey Mas Freedom Limerz for Zomercarnaval Rotterdam 2019, we would once again like to say thanks to all of you who joined us in help making this day a success. From the whole Awókey Mas Crew (Awókey Entertainment), our wonderful volunteers and of course not to forget our beautiful freedom liming masqueraders.

Speciaal voor de bewoners van de wijk Oud-Mathenesse en Het Witte Dorp. Een gratis "Workshop Carnavalskostuums Maken" en meelopen met Awókey Mas Freedom Limerz tijdens Zomercarnaval Rotterdam.

De Workshop Carnavalskostuum Maken bestaat uit 5 lessen van een uur inclusief een eindpresentatie waarin de kostuums worden getoond.

The Workshop Making Carnival Costumes consists of 5 lessons of one hour including a final presentation in which the costumes are shown.

The lessons:

May 30, 19:15 - 20:15 Lesson 1: Intro lesson and explanation Carnival. (Take measurements and fill out size forms)
June 06, 19:15 - 20:15: Lesson 2: Patterns 1 (How to make patterns and hands, feet, belt and neck decorations)
June 13, 19:15 - 20:15 Lesson 3: Patterns 2 (Finishing patterns for embellishments)
June 20, 19:15 - 20:15 Lesson 4: Decorating clothes 1 (Glue stones and/or feathers)
June 27, 19:15 - 20:15 Lesson 5: Decorating clothes 2 and final presentation
